It is your responsibility to pick up the childcarer from the airport or ferry port. We recommend that you discuss the house rules and duties of the childcarer with her as soon as possible. You may find helpful to fill out our au pair and nanny duties form and provide the childcarer with a copy of it as this ensures both parties are clear about what is expected of them. It is advisable to discuss and schedule working hours on a weekly or monthly basis with the childcarer.
Please allow sufficient time for your children to get to know the new childcarer and for the
childcarer to become acquainted with the children, house and duties before leaving her alone
with the children. It is also advisable to show her around the area on the first few days, especially
if duties include walking or driving the children to school or activities.
Childcarers who have a Finnish driving licence are legally permitted to drive in the EEC area. However, it is recommended that the family pay for an assessment and any driving lessons needed at a qualified driving school to ensure the childcarer can drive safely. This is especially important for families in the U.K and Ireland. It is also the family's responsibility to obtain appropriate insurance for the childcarer if they require her to drive their car. The family pays for petrol when the childcarer uses the car during working hours. If the childcarer is allowed to use the car when off duty, she is expected to pay for petrol costs herself.
Our commitment to the family and the childcarer continues for the duration of the placement. We will keep in contact with both parties to ensure that the placement is successful, and welcome any questions or comments you may have about hosting the au pair or employing the nanny.
